Dermatitis and Eczema

The terms dermatitis and eczema are often used interchangeably. In some cases the term eczematous dermatitis is used. Dermatitis can be acute or chronic or both.  Eczema/Dermatitis refers to a group of inflammatory conditions that  affects the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis.

We are experts in treating eczema and dermatitis conditions including:

There is no cure for Rosacea and the cause is unknown. However, proper medical therapy is available to control or reverse its signs and symptoms.

If you suspect you have Rosacea make an appointment with Dr. Landis for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Molluscum

Molluscum is a common viral skin infection that causes localized clusters of epidermal papules (called mollusca) that mainly affects infants and young children under the age of 10 years.

It is important to know that there are several ways it can spread:

  • Direct skin-to-skin contact
  • Indirect contact via shared towels or other items
  • Auto-inoculation into another site by scratching or shaving
  • Sexual transmission in adults

We offer several treatments for molluscum ranging from physical treatments (cryotherapy and laser) to topical medical solutions.  Please contact us today if you feel that you may be showing symptoms of molluscum so we can get an effective treatment plan in place for you.

Warts

A viral wart is a very common growth of the skin caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV).  Variations include the common wart, plantar wart, and the plane wart.

Warts are common in:

  • School-aged children
  • People with Eczema
  • People who are immune suppressed with medications

Our wart treatments include stimulating the body’s own immune system to attack the wart virus, cryotherapy (freezing), electrotherapy, and topical treatments.

Actinic Keratosis

Actinic keratosis is a scaly spot found on sun-damaged skin. It is also known as solar keratosis. It is considered precancerous or an early form of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma.

Actinic keratoses can affect people that have often lived in the tropics or subtropics and have predisposing factors such as:

  • Fair skin with a history of sunburn
  • History of long hours spent outdoors for work or recreation
  • Defective immune system

Scabies

Scabies is a very itchy rash caused by a parasitic mite that burrows in the skin surface.

Scabies is nearly always acquired by skin-to-skin contact with someone else with scabies.

  • The contact may be quite brief such as holding hands with an infested child.
  • It is sometimes sexually transmitted.
  • Occasionally scabies is acquired via bedding or furnishings.

Management of a scabies outbreak involves identification and treatment of individual patients and household contacts with insecticides. Oral antibiotics are required for secondary infection.

Careful attention to instructions is essential if scabies is to be cured.

These conditions can lead to complications.  Please contact us today if you would like diagnosis and treatment.

The most common forms of skin cancer are:
